The Propagation House is a fully residential recording and rehearsal facility set in stunning rural countryside on the Devon/Cornwall border.
The studio itself was lovingly designed and constructed by “The Studio People” on the foundations of an old propagation house.
These surroundings combined with our state of the art equipment provide a productive and creative yet relaxing and comfortable environment to work in.
We tailor our services to our clients needs and specifications, and are always open to new suggestions.
The next few pages will guide you through most of the services we offer, but if you require something that’s not listed, just contact us.
We’ll always do our best to arrange it for you – the studio prides itself in the ease of life and relaxing atmosphere when recording here.

In one of the world’s most competitive industries, you can only gain success by being the best – and proving this fact to those that need to know.
Whether that be record labels, booking agents, management or publishers, it’s vital that you are able to supply a top quality product.
You never know when you might need to have the product – so you need to make recording the best material a top priority.
Contrary to popular belief, good recordings aren’t just about good equipment. They’re actually about great performance, great acoustics, and great equipment.
This is where Propagation House comes into it’s own, and offers you, as the artist, a package with which few studios can compete.
In order for you to get the best performance, you need to be awake, relaxed, comfortable, well fed and feeling positve.
With our on-site accommodation, you’ll always be awake and ready to perform. And with our calm surroundings, you’ll forget all your stresses.
With our air conditioned studio, you’ll always be comfortable to play; and with our catering packages and experienced chef, you’ll never play hungry.
With this in mind, you’ll be left feeling positive, productive, keen and ready to record the best material you are capable of.
Being forced into an 8-hour session starting at 9am after a heavy friday night, in a hot boxy room in the city centre, with nothing more than tea
and coffee and biscuits to snack on; is not the best way to start – let alone finish – the studio session to secure your next record deal! With us, you could start at 1 in the afternoon, in an open, well lit, air-conditioned room in the countryside, with hot meals served during your session. Is there really a choice?
Now to accompany that relaxing environment is an impressive array of industry leading equipment.
Fine pre-amps, industry-leading A/D and D/A conversion, top quality plug-ins and outboard, and of course precise and accurate monitors and microphones,
give no reason not to get a professional, commercial quality record sound, especially when operated by our experienced engineers,
and combined with our built-for-purpose building – constructed with nothing but the best acoustics in mind.
No matter what somebody might tell you about ‘home recording’ – even a decent computer, with a good interface or soundcard, with decent mics and pre-amps; in dull and lifeless rooms; will never achieve that big, commercial sound – or quality.
Propagation House offers great rates to bands both signed and unsigned. Don’t assume we’re too dear for your project! Get in contact,
tell us what you’re doing, what you’ve got to spend, and what you want to do, and we’ll do our best to tailor-fit a package to your needs.
Every band deserves a top quality studio and environment to record their material in, and big and small bands alike will always be welcome.
So before splashing your cash on a substandard studio, give us a call or an e-mail, or perhaps pay us a visit – and we are sure
that you’ll be making your next booking with Propagation House – and recording your best material yet within our walls.
The studio features a fantastic array of equipment, all of the highest standard. The studio is based around Mute Records Amek Eintein Super E 24 bus / 80-input console, feeding a Pro Tools HD2 system based around Digidesign 192s and Focusrite 428 pre-amp converters; and monitoring through Quested 2×8 mains with MC2 amplicification, plus Genelec 1029s and Yamaha NS10s. The studio features a number of industry standard microphones such as a Neumann U87, KM84 and TLM103, Audio Technica 4033s, Sennhesier 421s and all the normal Shure mics; as well as some more interesting mics from the likes of Heil Sound, Soundfield, and Oktava. The studio also features plug-ins from Waves, McDSP, Sonnox and Digidesign amongst others.
In recent years, the studio has focussed on ‘In The Box’ mixing, for it’s convenience, cross-compatibility and sound quality. Our use of computer-based effects and processing rather than the use of outboard, as well as the removal of the console’s seldom-used automation computer, and the studios wealth of natural light from the unobscured Cornish countryside, has also allowed us to further our commitment to the environment.
